At St Mary of the Cross, our STEM program is grounded in innovative, research-informed practices that empower students to think critically, solve problems, and engage deeply with Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Guided by the Victorian Curriculum 2.0, our approach integrates real-world challenges, design thinking, and hands-on inquiry to spark curiosity and creativity. Each learning sequence begins with purposeful review and reflection, reinforcing prior knowledge while building connections across disciplines. Students are explicitly taught key concepts, then challenged to apply their learning through collaborative investigations and independent tasks. Differentiation is embedded throughout to ensure every learner is supported and extended. A particular focus is placed on developing strong foundational knowledge in digital technologies, scientific reasoning, and engineering processes—preparing students to become confident, future-ready innovators and critical thinkers.
