THRASS in our school

About THRASS

At St Mary of the Cross Primary School, we have implemented THRASS from Prep to Year Six.

THRASS is a phonics based teaching- tool thats supports the teaching of English. Our children are taught the 44 phonemes (sounds) of spoken English and also the graphemes (spelling choices) to represent these phonemes.

THRASS stands for

Skills

THRASS is a whole school approach to teaching reading and spelling skills and we have a variety of resources to support all learners.  Throughout our school, you will find THRASS Charts being used daily which allows teachers to explicitly teach these skills. We also have THRASS Charts to purchase at our office for $7.00.

Regular parent workshops are also conducted to support our whole community to develop their knowledge of THRASS at our school. Our aim with our workshops is to support parents to understand our teaching focus at school and always ways to support your child at home.
